Bibliographic databases

Our subscribed online databases include: AMED, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, MEDLINE, and Trip Pro. You can also access our eBooks platforms (EBSCOhost and ProQuest). Content of these databases can be searched via our WorldCat Discovery.

Using the databases separately allows you make use of the database specific functionality. Many databases feature a subject specific term (thesaurus) that relates to content on those databases. E.g. MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) is the National Library of Medicine controlled vocabulary thesaurus used for indexing articles for PubMed and MEDLINE.

This guide covers how to define your search as a question, provides tips on building a search strategy and limiting search results in our databases:

AMED

  • Access AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine Database) 
  • This database covers 500 relevant journals (many not indexed by other biomedical sources) as well as complementary medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language, podiatry, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text

  • Access CINAHL Plus with Full Text
  • This database is a collection of nursing and allied health journals, providing full text from many journals indexed in CINAHL.
  • The content includes journal articles, healthcare books and book chapters, selected conference proceedings, standards of practice, and audio-visuals.

 MEDLINE

  • Access MEDLINE
  • This database is produced by the US National Library of Medicine, indexes content from biomedical journals.
  • This is not a full text database.
  • It covers aspects of clinical medicine, biomedicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health, health policy, and genetics.

SPORTDiscus

  • Access SPORTDiscus
  • This database covers key areas of sports medicine and related fields and includes journal articles, dissertations and theses, conference proceedings, books and book chapters.
  • This is not a full text database and the number of concurrent users is limited. When access is denied, please try again later.

Trip Pro

  • Access Trip Pro 
  • The name of Trip comes from ‘Turning Research Into Practice'. It is a clinical search engine designed to allow users to quickly and easily find and use high-quality research evidence to support their practice and/or care. Their motto is ‘Find evidence fast’.
