In February 2019, NHS England proposed a set of changes to legislation that they believe need to be made to implement the NHS Long Term Plan. NHS England hopes the Government will introduce a Bill, based on these proposals, for parliamentary scrutiny.
Prior to further developing their ideas with the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England ran an engagement exercise – inviting responses to the proposals from trade unions, professional bodies, and other health and social care stakeholders. The CSP is supportive of the proposals as being necessary to deliver the Long Term Plan, and the transformation needed to achieve long-term sustainability of the healthcare system. Our response – including suggestions for how the proposals could be strengthened – is linked here.
The CSP is also a signatory to joint contributions being submitted by the Trades Union Congress and the Allied Health Professions Federation.
